The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is warning house hunters against making offers on properties which have been fitted with free solar panels, as these types of homes are more likely to be turned down by mortgage companies. The solar panels are fitted free in return for long leases which give the company's ownership of the roof space over the property, and this lease is typically 25 years.
