More than 1.5 Million Brits Own a Second Home

According to the latest census, more than 1.5 million people living in England and Wales own a second property. It is the first time this information has been collected during a census, and these figures are equal to 2.8% of the population. Most of these properties aren’t used as holiday homes, as 77% have bought them for other uses. At the end of last month the Inland Revenue announced that private landlords should be prepared to receive a knock on the door during the next few weeks, as it's launched a new task force to help recover unpaid taxes which are estimated to be up to £17 million. The specific details aren't yet known, but it's thought that the task force will concentrate on landlords with houses of multiple occupancy, and those providing temporary accommodation.
