There is to be a new partnership between the National House Building Council and the government, as the government is keen to learn more about the industry in an effort to get more new homes built. According to housing minister, Grant Shapps, government ministers will have greater access to more information about a number of details including such things as information on stalled projects and why, new home sustainability, building quality and design, and how long it takes to build and construction activity levels. The hope is that by sharing this information the government will be able to see how best to help the construction industry to get moving again, and will be able to better assess the effects of any future policies. At the moment the NHBC is responsible for more than 80% of warranties provided on new build homes.
The government has already taken steps to help the ailing property market by announcing the £400 million Get Britain Building Fund which will restart stalled building projects. It also hopes the new Mortgage Indemnity Scheme will help provide first-time buyers with greater access to funds when buying new build homes. The NHBC already works closely with the government in order to provide them with accurate information and according to its chief executive, Imtiaz Farookhi, it is welcoming this new partnership and hopes it will go some way towards helping to deliver more quality new homes to help meet the country's needs.
