Worried About the Possibility of an Apocalypse?
Just about every week there's an article in a newspaper about the possibility of some apocalypse, and reasons range from solar flares, terrorist attacks or the collapse of the global economy. While most of us will simply have to be resigned to our fate, the super-rich will always have an alternative. The latest project to be marketed as offering guaranteed survival is a collection of luxury flats sunk into the prairies in Kansas. The flats are being built in an abandoned missile silo, and contain all those luxurious necessities including a movie theatre, a library, and even a pool. There is no danger of running out of food, as the complex has an indoor farm which can provide food for 70 people, apparently for an indefinite period, while there will be enough dry goods to sustain life for five years.
At the moment four buyers have bought properties in the development, investing around £4.4 million. The project will have 14 underground floors, seven of which will provide living quarters selling at around $2 million per floor, or a mere $1 million for half a floor. At the moment 3 and a half units have been sold, and two others are subject to contract, leaving just two more available. Naturally the complex will have a security system designed to keep the riffraff out in the event of a disaster. This being America security measures can range from a mere warning to using lethal force. It's not the first time an abandoned nuclear missile silo has been transformed into a shelter, and with a space extending 53 metres underground, and concrete walls that are 9 feet thick, it's easy to imagine they could withstand a considerable explosion. Happy Friday 13th.
